About

We are…

Stephanie’s Reflection

and

Ivan’s Shadow

The former – a card-holding member of a radical secret society that functions under the guise of the Duke University Cultural Anthropology Department.

And the latter, well – “Just trying to be a good guy,” to quote George Michael [Bluth, that is].

Taken together, we have lived across eight continents and in the legal confines of 348 separate municipalities. Make that 348 and a half.

At the moment, as you have no doubt gathered by even a cursory glance at the blog, we are in Oaxaca, Mexico. We are following Stephanie’s dream of having an exotic adventure with Ivan while pursuing subversive anthropological research; and Ivan’s dream of- honestly, who really gives a *#$% about Ivan’s dream?

So, Lime in the Coconut? A tribute to the late, great Harry Nilsson, of course. To quote the first few verses:

Bruder bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime

His sister had anudder one she paid it for de lime.

She put de lime in de coconut, she drank ’em bot’ up
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank ’em bot’ up.
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank ’em bot’ up
She put de lime in de coconut, she call de doctor, woke ‘im up,

Said “doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take?”
I said “Doctor, to relieve this belly ache,”
I said “Doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take?”
I said “Doctor, to relieve this belly ache.”
Now lemme get this straight…

Put the lime in the coconut? Doctor, ain’t there nothing I can take? So lemme get this straight?… What exactly does this mean, and what in the world does this rather turgid, digressive mish-mash of a blog have to do with it?!?!!???!

Well, you be the judge, or don’t. Either way, sit back, relax, and…

What were we talking about again?

Ivan and Steph
